Product Introduction

ASTM B168 / B564 Inconel 601H (UNS N06601) Forged Disc is a high-performance nickel-based alloy component specifically engineered for extreme high-temperature and severely corrosive environments.

Among these specifications, ASTM B168 covers standards for plate, sheet, and strip, which are commonly used as raw plate stock for disc cutting; while ASTM B564 is the dedicated specification for nickel alloy forgings, directly governing the manufacturing process and mechanical property requirements for hot-forged discs.

UNS N06601 Forged Disc Key Properties

1.Outstanding High-Temperature Oxidation & Spallation Resistance:

  • Dual Protective Scale: In addition to high nickel and chromium content, the alloy is specifically modified with 1.0%–1.7% aluminum (Al). At elevated temperatures, it forms not only a protective chromia surface layer but also a highly dense, tightly adherent alumina subscale.

  • Temperature Capability: Maintains minimal gaseous corrosion loss in high-temperature oxidizing atmospheres up to 1250°C (2280°F).

  • Thermal Cycling Stability: Resists oxide scale cracking and spalling under severe cyclic heating and cooling, making it ideal for cyclic thermal processing applications.

2.Superior High-Temperature Mechanical Properties (Exclusive Advantage of 601H):

  • Enhanced Creep Resistance: Unlike standard Inconel 601 (where carbon content is typically capped at 0.10% maximum with no lower limit or specific grain size requirement), Inconel 601H maintains a controlled coarse grain size and a precise higher carbon content range (0.05%–0.10%). This significantly boosts the material's resistance to creep deformation and stress-rupture under long-term high-temperature exposure.

  • High Strength Retention: Supported by a stable austenitic matrix (solid-solution strengthening), it retains substantial mechanical strength even at service temperatures exceeding 1000°C.

3.Excellent Resistance to High-Temperature Environmental Corrosion:

  • Carburization & Nitriding Resistance: The high nickel content provides exceptional resistance to reducing gases in high-temperature industrial furnaces, such as hydrocarbon- and ammonia-bearing atmospheres during carburizing and nitriding.

  • Sulfur-Bearing Atmosphere Resistance: Performs well in sulfur-containing oxidizing gases (e.g., petrochemical cracking gases), though performance is limited in strongly reducing polysulfide environments.

  • Chloride-Ion Stress-Corrosion Cracking Resistance: Inherits the natural advantage of high-nickel alloys, rendering it virtually immune to chloride-induced stress-corrosion cracking (SCC).

Forging & Heat-Treatment Process of Inconel 601H Forged Disc

Inconel 601H forged discs are produced by standardized die forging and ring rolling processes. Precise temperature control refines internal grains, eliminates casting porosity and shrinkage defects, and forms continuous radial metal streamline. Professional post-forging heat treatment stabilizes material structure, greatly improving high-temperature oxidation resistance and thermal fatigue stability compared with plate-cut discs.

Process Stage Temperature Parameter Process Standard & Purpose
Pre-forging Heating 1100℃–1180℃ Uniform heating to ensure forging plasticity
Hot Forging Forming 1050℃–1120℃, end ≥950℃ Refine grains and eliminate internal defects
Solution Annealing 1010℃–1060℃, air cooling Remove stress and dissolve precipitated phases
Stress Relief 800℃–850℃, air cooling Stabilize dimension for finished discs

Machining & Welding Guidance for Inconel 601H Forged Disc

Inconel 601H features low thermal conductivity and obvious work hardening tendency, resulting in higher processing difficulty. Standardized machining and welding parameters prevent surface hardening, thermal deformation and weld cracks, ensuring the forged disc retains stable high-temperature performance and mechanical properties after processing.

Processing Type Core Operation Parameters Key Precautions
Turning Machining 20–40m/min cutting speed, sufficient coolant Adopt carbide tools, avoid intermittent cutting
Drilling & Milling Low rotating speed and smooth chip removal Prevent tool burning and surface hardening
Welding Process GTAW preferred, ERNiCrFe-11 filler Control interpass temperature below 150℃
Post-weld Treatment Weld pickling and passivation Avoid aging treatment to prevent brittle phases

Inconel 601H Forged Disc Typical Application Areas

Manufactured in full compliance with ASTM B168 (plate, sheet, and strip) and ASTM B564 (forgings and flanges), these components are extensively deployed in severe high-temperature industrial environments:

Heat Treatment Equipment: Industrial furnace muffles, radiant heating tubes, heating element hangers, annealing hearth rollers, and thermocouple sheaths.

Petrochemical Refining: Catalytic cracking unit regenerators, thermal oxidizers/incinerators, and high-temperature process reactor internal components.

Aerospace & Power Plant Systems: Gas turbine combustor liners, fuel nozzles, jet engine exhaust ducting, and superheater tube supports.

Packaging & Shipment for Inconel 601H Forged Disc

We adopt exclusive seaworthy packaging for Inconel 601H forged discs to avoid scratches, oxidation and collision damage during long-distance international transportation.

We first clean surface oil and dust, and paste anti-scratch protective film on precision machined surfaces. Each disc is tightly wrapped with VCI anti-rust film and matched with desiccants for full moisture-proof sealing. Shockproof foam is added between stacked discs to isolate metal friction.

All products are firmly fixed on wooden pallets, while large and heavy forgings are independently packed in fumigated export wooden cases. Each batch is clearly marked with heat number, size and grade to achieve full traceability before shipment.
