The finish on the face of flange is measured as an Arithmetical Average Roughness Height(AARH). The finish is determined by the standard used. For example, ANSI B16.5 specifies face finishes within a range 125AARH-500AARH(3.2Ra to 12.5Ra). Other finishes are available on requst, for example 1.6 Ra max,1.6/3.2 Ra, 3.2/6.3Ra or 6.3/12.5Ra. The range 3.2/6.3Ra is most common.
Flange Types (by Connection Method)
Integral Flange
Integrally manufactured with the inlets/outlets of pumps, valves, machinery, and other equipment as part of the equipment itself, it features a firm connection and is suitable for applications requiring high tightness and strength.
Slip-On Flange (SO Flange)
Also known as lap-joint flange, it connects by inserting the pipe end into the bottom or inner opening of the flange socket, with the pipe end positioned below the inner plane of the flange. Welding is performed on the outer edge or both the inner and outer edges of the flange.
Weld-Neck Flange (WN Flange)
Also called high-neck flange, it has a long, inclined neck extending from the welding joint with the pipe to the flange disc. The wall thickness transitions gradually along the height to the pipe wall thickness, improving stress discontinuity and enhancing strength.
Loose Flange (Lap Joint Flange)
Commonly known as a loose flange, it is divided into welded ring loose flanges, flanged loose flanges, and butt-welded loose flanges. The flange can rotate for easy alignment of bolt holes, making it convenient for installing large-diameter pipelines.
Threaded Flange
The inner hole is machined with pipe threads to connect with pipes featuring external threads, making it a non-welded flange. It has a nominal diameter range of DN8–DN100 and a working pressure of 1.0–2.5 MPa.
