Inconel 718 alloy steel aging treatment process
INCONEL alloy 718 is typically aging treated with two heat treatments: a solution anneal at 1700-1850°F, followed by rapid cooling (usually in water), plus precipitation hardening at 1325°F for 8 hours, furnace cooling to 1150°F, and a total aging time of 18 hours at 1150°F, followed by air cooling.

At what temperature does Inconel 718 oxidize?
Inconel 718 oxidizes at a parabolic, diffusion-controlled rate over a wide temperature range of 1223 K to 1573 K in atmospheric air, lasting for weeks. Above 1573 K, oxidation becomes extremely intense, causing severe deformation.

1. Pretreatment Stage (Solution Treatment)
This process is the initial step in the aging treatment of Inconel 718 alloy steel, and its importance is self-evident. The core goal of this stage is to reduce the thermal stresses generated during subsequent high-temperature treatment, preventing deformation, cracking, and other problems.
In practical applications, temperature control in this process is considered the "first hurdle." Excessively high temperatures or excessively long holding times can lead to grain growth, making the alloy surface susceptible to reaction with oxygen in the air and forming an oxide scale. This not only affects the alloy's appearance but also reduces its strength and toughness. On the other hand, excessively low temperatures significantly weaken the "buffering" effect of preheating, failing to effectively mitigate the thermal shock caused by subsequent temperature increases.
2. Primary Aging Treatment
The primary aging treatment is a key step in the precipitation of γ phase in Inconel 718 steel, directly impacting its final properties. Its primary function is to precipitate strengthening phases, thereby improving the alloy's strength and high-temperature creep resistance.
3.Secondary Aging Treatment
The secondary aging treatment of Inconel 718 alloy steel is a critical process, primarily stabilizing the alloy structure, further precipitating strengthening phases, improving material properties, and optimizing the distribution of the δ phase.
