Monel(R) blind flanges, made from a nickel-copper alloy, offer high strength, toughness and good corrosion resistance over a wide temperature range. An outstanding feature of Monel blind flanges is their excellent resistance to hydrofluoric acid, a particularly difficult acid to handle in concentrations up to its boiling point. For hydrofluoric acid applications, Monel blind flanges are probably the most resistant of all the commonly used specialty alloys.

Properties of Monel Blind Flanges:
An important property of Monel blind flanges is their resistance to halides or halogen-containing solutions. At room temperature, Monel blind flanges exhibit slight magnetic behavior, so the use of these flanges can also be extended to applications that require a certain degree of magnetic properties. Monel blind flanges are often found in the marine industry, as this alloy has good resistance not only to seawater, but also to high-velocity salt water. An extraordinary property of Monel blind flanges is that they exhibit excellent resistance to hydrofluoric acid, a particularly difficult acid to handle. For hydrofluoric acid applications, Monel blind flanges are probably the most resistant of all the commonly used specialty alloys, especially below the boiling point.
What is a blind flange used for?
It is used to close the end of a piping system. A blind flange is essentially a flange without a center or notch. Blind flanges have the face thickness of a spine, a matching face profile, and a similar ejection design. Blind spines can also be used to seal spout openings on pressure vessels.
