Monel R405

Monel R405 is a nickel-copper alloy also known as UNS N04405, part of the Monel family of high-temperature alloys. Monel 405 is typically available in rod, rod and wire forms and offers enhanced processability due to its higher sulfur content. In addition, this high-temperature alloy has excellent corrosion resistance, high strength and good weldability. It is resistant to high temperatures of seawater and steam, as well as salt, caustic solutions, alkalis, sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid and hydrofluoric acid. These properties make it ideal for harsh marine and chemical environments. It is also resistant to sulfuric acid and performs well in subzero temperatures.

Corrosion resistant in a wide range of marine and chemical environments. From pure water to non-oxidizing inorganic acids, salts and bases.

MONEL R405 is more resistant to nickel than copper under reducing conditions and corrosion than copper under oxidizing conditions, but it does show better resistance to reducing media than to oxidizing media.

Good mechanical properties from sub-zero temperatures to about 480C.

Has good resistance to sulfuric acid and hydrofluoric acid. However, aeration can lead to increased corrosion rates. Can be used to treat hydrochloric acid, but the presence of oxidizing salts will greatly accelerate corrosion.

Resistant to neutral, alkaline and acidic salts, but less resistant to oxidizing acid salts such as ferric chloride.

Excellent resistance to chloride ion stress corrosion cracking.

MONEL R405 cannot be welded due to the addition of sulfur for free machining.
