Standards and Versions
Monel 400 is certified to British Standard BS3076 (NA13) and American Standard ASTM B164 (N04400). Hastelloy C276 complies with American Standard ASTM B574 (N10276). Both alloys also meet NACE MR-0175 requirements, ensuring they meet stringent standards for corrosion resistance in challenging environments.

Monel Alloy 400 depends heavily on the addition of copper within its composition, while Hastelloy C276 incorporates molybdenum, chromium, and tungsten, which provide stronger solution strengthening, resulting in higher tensile strength. The tighter control over impurities like silicon and carbon in Hastelloy C276 enhances its weldability, but, as always, there is no such thing as a free lunch and this also raises production costs.

The Hastelloy C276 Seamless Pipes is often used for high-pressure applications where strength is paramount, while the welded version is best suited for low-pressure applications such as piping systems for water supply lines or fire protection systems. Different types of products are available, such as Alloy Steel A182 F22 Flanges, Incoloy 925 Forgings, etc.
Hastelloy C276 Welded Tubes offer many advantages over traditional steel piping solutions, including superior corrosion resistance even in highly acidic environments, excellent thermal stability even at extreme temperatures ranging from cryogenic temperatures up to 1200 degrees Fahrenheit (649 Celsius), superior wear resistance compared to other alloys such as stainless steel and carbon steel making it ideal for use in high wear applications such as valves and pumps as well as superior formability allowing it to be bent into complex shapes without breaking or cracking under pressure. Moreover, Hastelloy C276 EFW Tubes are non-magnetic, so they will not interfere with sensitive electronic equipment like magnetic sensors or rotary encoders. This makes them perfect for certain industrial automation applications requiring precise positioning accuracy without interference from metallic debris or magnetic fields within the environment.Monel is a solid solution hardening alloy grade. Monel 400 pipes are engineered with an excellent chemical composition consisting of nickel and other alloys. The nickel content gives Alloy 400 pipes excellent corrosion and oxidation resistance in stress-induced systems. These versatile pipe grades resist reducing environments where acidic materials such as nitric and nitrous acids are present. Monel pipes are generally not susceptible to chloride ion stress corrosion cracking and are magnetic at room temperature. The modules can be easily welded in place following standard welding procedures. Monel pipes can be used in a wide range of marine systems and installations where degassing reducing hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids are present.
Alloy 400 pipes have excellent mechanical properties. These pipes have a tensile strength between 517 and 620 MPa. They have a yield strength between 172 and 345 MPa while exhibiting an elastic modulus of 179 GPA. The alloy of Monel 400 pipes can be used at temperatures up to 1000 degrees Fahrenheit and a melting point between 2370 and 2460 degrees Celsius. These pipes must be tempered through a series of processes to increase their strength.
Monel 400 seamless pipe is a type of manufacturing that utilizes hot billets to precisely shape the pipe grade. These pipes have higher strength and load-bearing capacity than ordinary grades. Monel 400 seamless pipes are available in standard sizes. The materials used in manufacturing these pipes make them slightly more expensive than welded pipes or other types of pipes.
