What is Hastelloy C4?
Hastelloy C-4 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy with excellent high temperature stability. It has high ductility and corrosion resistance. Its high temperature resistance up to 1900 °F (1038 °C) makes it suitable for most chemical process applications in the welded state.
What is the temperature limit for Hastelloy C22?
Alloy C-22 should not be used at service temperatures above 1250°F because deleterious phases will form above this temperature.
What is the tensile strength of Hastelloy C22?
According to the manufacturer, typical tensile properties of solution heat treated Hastelloy C-22 sheet (0.71-3.2 mm): At 20°C: Yield strength: 407 MPa. Tensile strength: 800 MPa.
Difference Between Hastelloy C4 and C22
Chemical Composition
The chemical composition of Hastelloy C4 is 65% nickel, 16% chromium, 16% molybdenum and 2% iron. Whereas the chemical composition of Hastelloy C22 is 56% nickel, 22% chromium, 13% molybdenum and 3% tungsten, with small amounts of iron, cobalt and manganese. This difference in composition determines their resistance to various corrosive media, including sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid and acetic acid. Due to the addition of tungsten, Hastelloy C22 is more resistant to these media than Hastelloy C4.
Temperature Resistance
Hastelloy C4 has a high temperature limit of 1900°F (1038°C), while Hastelloy C22 has a high temperature limit of 2200°F (1204°C). Therefore, if your industrial application needs to withstand extreme temperatures, C22 is a better choice.
