INCONEL 601 Wire Mesh – Alloy Overview
Inconel 601 wire mesh (aka Alloy 601) is a nickel-chromium alloy with added iron (~14%) and aluminum (~1.35%) designed for applications requiring resistance to corrosion and extreme temperatures. The addition of aluminum allows Alloy 601 to maintain its high mechanical properties even in extremely hot environments and remains highly resistant to oxidation at temperatures up to 2200°F. Therefore, it is more suitable for use in higher temperature environments than the Inconel 600. Its high nickel content (~60.5%) gives Alloy 601 wire cloth excellent resistance to alkaline solutions, reducing conditions, chloride stress corrosion cracking, and various inorganic and organic compounds. Its high chromium content (~23%) makes Inconel 601 mesh highly resistant to a variety of alkaline salt solutions, corrosive environments, and oxidizing environments. The chromium content of Alloy 601 mesh gives it superior resistance to oxidizing environments compared to pure Nickel 200 and Nickel 201. Some of the properties of Inconel 601 Silk Cloth that determine its use are:

Ideal for use in high temperature environments up to 2200°F.
Non-magnetic under all conditions.
Good high temperature strength; retains ductility after hours of use.
Resists flaking even under severe thermal cycling conditions.
Good resistance to carburizing and carbonitriding.
At high temperatures, it has good tolerance to oxidizing and sulfur-containing environments.
Not suitable for strongly reducing and sulfur-containing environments.
Can be cut, formed and welded.
Industries and Applications
Inconel 601 wire cloth is primarily used in extremely high temperature environments where corrosive, oxidizing and/or reducing agents are also present. Therefore, Alloy 601 is widely used in heat treatment equipment, muffle furnaces and nuclear steam generator equipment. Other industries and applications where Alloy 601 wire cloth is commonly used include:
