How to weld Monel Alloy R-405?
The following steps can be used for welding Monel Alloy R-405:
Preparation:
Make sure to use Monel Alloy R-405 alloy material designed for easy processing, which will help improve the efficiency of automated processing. When machining at high speeds, oil lubrication is required to protect tools and materials.
Choose an appropriate welding process such as tungsten arc welding (TIG). This process is suitable for the welding of Monel Alloy R-405 and can obtain good welding results.
Welding materials and equipment:
A cerium tungsten electrode is used as the electrode, with a diameter of about 4mm, and the end is ground into a tapered shape.
Select the appropriate welding wire diameter, generally 3mm, and its composition mass fraction should be Al 0.2%~0.4%, Ti 1.5%~3.0%, and Mn 1.2~1.8%.
The welding power supply should be set to DC positive connection.
Preparation before welding:
Before welding, the 40mm area on both sides of the groove should be polished and cleaned with a grinding wheel to ensure that there are no impurities in the welding area.
Polish the welding wires clean with sandpaper, cut each wire into a length of about 1m, and scrub the welding area and wire surface with acetone to remove any oil or stains that may affect the welding quality.
Welding process:
When welding the first layer of primer, the welding current is recommended to be set to 90~100A. In order to ensure the quality of the back side of the weld, you can add a pure copper backing plate (with R groove) on the back side and pass in argon gas for protection. The argon gas flow rate is 12L/min for welding gun protection; the backing plate is 8L/min for argon protection.
During the welding process, the welding wire should be pressed into the gap to ensure penetration.
For layer 2 and layer 3 welding, the current can be increased to 120~130A and 130~140A respectively to adapt to different levels of welding needs.
In addition, during the entire welding process, attention should be paid to the control of welding parameters, such as current, voltage, and welding speed, as well as the flow and purity of the protective gas. At the same time, the temperature and deformation of the welding area are monitored to ensure welding quality and structural stability.
In summary, through the above steps, Monel Alloy R-405 can be effectively welded to ensure the strength and corrosion resistance of the welded joint.
