The alloy has excellent corrosion resistance in fluorine gas, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, hydrofluoric acid and their derivatives. Acid medium :M400 is corrosion resistant in sulfuric acid concentrations less than 85%. M400 is one of the few important materials that can resist hydrofluoric acid. Water corrosion :M400 alloy in most cases of water corrosion, not only excellent corrosion resistance, but also pore corrosion, stress corrosion, etc. are rarely found, corrosion rate is less than 0.025mm/a high temperature corrosion :M400 in the air continuous working maximum temperature is generally about 600℃, in high temperature steam, corrosion rate is less than 0.026mm/a. Ammonia: Due to the high nickel content of Monel 400 alloy, it can resist the corrosion of anhydrous ammonia and ammoniation conditions below 585℃.
The corrosion resistance of Monel K500 in general solid solution is basically the same as that of Monel 400 alloy, so the corrosion resistance data of Monel 400 can be fully applied to Monel K500 alloy. Due to the low corrosion rate of the alloy in flowing seawater and the high strength of the alloy, the alloy is particularly suitable for the manufacture of seawater corrosion-resistant centrifugal pump shafts.
