Monel 400 (UNS N04400) is an alloy mainly composed of nickel (Ni ≥ 63%) and copper (Cu 28-34%). It is an ideal choice for harsh environments due to its excellent corrosion resistance, high strength and excellent processing performance. Its thick-walled tubes (wall thickness is usually ≥5mm) are designed for high pressure, high corrosion and extreme temperature conditions, and are widely used in oil and gas, marine engineering, chemical industry and nuclear power.
Core characteristics
Monel 400 thick-walled tubes are particularly outstanding in corrosion resistance. They can resist non-oxidizing media such as seawater, salt spray, sulfuric acid, and hydrofluoric acid. At the same time, they are resistant to chloride ion stress corrosion cracking (better than stainless steel 316L) and remain stable at high temperatures below 480°C. It has excellent mechanical properties, with a tensile strength of 480-620 MPa in the annealed state and 620-900 MPa after cold working. It is non-magnetic and suitable for precision instruments or MRI equipment. In terms of physical properties, the density is 8.8 g/cm³, the melting point is 1300-1350°C, and it still has good toughness in low temperature environment (-200°C).
Specifications and processes
The conventional outer diameter of thick-walled pipes covers 10-500 mm (customizable to 1000 mm), wall thickness 5-50 mm (maximum 100 mm), and length 1-6 m (can be butt-jointed to 12 m). The manufacturing process is mainly hot-extruded seamless pipes (ASTM B165) to ensure the density of the organization; ERW welded pipes (ASTM B725) are suitable for medium and low pressure scenarios to reduce costs. The supply status is divided into annealed state (excellent corrosion resistance, easy processing) and cold-processed state (high strength) to meet different needs.
