The corrosion resistance of it is considerably identical to that of alloy 400 excluding that when in the age-hardened condition, it has a higher propensity toward stress-corrosion cracking in some condition. It has been found to be resistant to a sour-gas condition. The combination of very low corrosion rates in high-velocity sea water and high strength make it specifically suitable for shafts of centrifugal pumps in marine service. In still or slow-moving sea water, infect may happen accompanied by pitting but this pitting lower downs after a reasonably rapid initial attack.
