Copper-tungsten alloys are used in products or parts that require high heat resistance, low thermal expansion and high electrical or thermal conductivity. Tungsten copper is used in the manufacture of engines and electrical equipment. It is also used in aviation and aerospace fields. Electrodes, refractory components, heat sinks, rocket components and electrical contacts are all made of copper-tungsten alloy. The alloy is also available in sheets, tubes and plates. Copper-tungsten alloys are used in the manufacture of contacts for high- and medium-voltage electrical equipment as well as high-speed steel equipment and switches.

Wcu55 Tungsten Alloy
Copper-tungsten (tungsten-copper, CuW or WCu) is a mixture of copper and tungsten. Since copper and tungsten are not miscible, the material consists of different particles of one metal dispersed in a matrix of the other. Therefore, the microstructure is that of a metal matrix composite rather than a true alloy.
The material combines the properties of both metals to create a material that is heat- and ablation-resistant, highly thermally and electrically conductive, and easy to process.
Parts are made from CuW composites by pressing tungsten particles into the desired shape, sintering the compacted part, and then infiltrating it with molten copper. Composite blends are also available in sheets, rods and rods.
Commonly used copper-tungsten mixtures contain 10-50 wt.% copper, with the remainder being primarily tungsten. Typical properties depend on its composition. Mixtures with less copper have higher density, higher hardness, and higher resistivity. Typical density is 16.75 g/cm3 for CuW90 (containing 10% copper) and 11.85 g/cm3 for CuW50. CuW90 has higher hardness and resistivity than CuW50, 260 HB kgf/mm2 and 6.5 μΩ.cm respectively.
