Zr-2 alloy was first used on the first nuclear submarine in the United States in 1955. After more than 20 years of practice, it has proven to be reliable as a fuel element cladding material and pressure tube material for boiling water reactors and pressurized water reactors. .
In order to improve the PCI resistance of Zr-2 alloy, the United States has developed Zr-2 tube lining technology, with a pure zirconium layer thickness of 80-100 μm.
Zr-2 alloy is generally used in the manufacture of boiling water reactors.

Zr-2 Niobium Alloy
The corrosion resistance of Zr-2.5Nb alloy has a great relationship with heat treatment. The quenching aging corrosion rate of Zr-2.5 Nb alloy is higher than that of Zr-2 alloy. It is higher than the content in CO2 and air. Zr-2.5Nb is not much different from Zr-2 after long-term corrosion (i.e. 30 years) in water medium (i.e. corrosion between 316-400℃). The corrosion resistance of Zr-2.5Nb (including the cold-working state as the corrosion temperature increases) is better than that of Zr-2.
