Zircaloy 4
Zircloy-4 (UNS R60804) is a variation of Zircloy-2, but it contains no nickel and has a higher, more tightly controlled iron content. The mechanical properties are similar to pure zirconium, with higher strength, lower ductility and excellent corrosion resistance. This alloy is also used in nuclear service; it absorbs less hydrogen than Zircloy-2 when exposed to corrosion in water and steam.
Zircloy-4 was developed from Zircloy-2 with the primary purpose of reducing the tendency to absorb hydrogen. Therefore, the same composition specifications apply except that the maximum content of nickel is limited to 0.007% and the content range of iron is reduced to 0.18%.
