Pipe size is specified with two dimensionless numbers:

1) Nominal pipe size (NPS) is for inch diameter. Nominal Pipe Size (NPS) is a set of standard sizes currently used for pipes in North America for high pressure, low pressure and temperature.

2) Schedule Number (SCH) is the wall thickness of the pipe. The Schedule Number range of wall thickness is SCH 5, 5S, 10, 10S, 20, 30, 40, 40S, 60, 80, 80S, 100, 120, 140, 160, STD, XS (super strong) and XXS (double super powerful).

Accurately specifying specific pipes requires dimensions and schedules. At the same time, based on these two values, the size of the pipe can be accurately known so that materials can be ordered.
