ASTM B983 GH4169 high-temperature alloy tube (also known as Inconel 718 or UNSN07718) is a nickel-based high-temperature alloy that is widely used in harsh applications, including high-performance automotive engines, due to its excellent strength, stability and environmental resistance at high temperatures.

What is GH4169?

GH4169 is a nickel-chromium alloy containing significant amounts of iron, niobium, and molybdenum, as well as small amounts of aluminum and titanium. It is known for its high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and good weldability. It is commonly used in gas turbines and jet engines.

ASTM B983 is the standard specification for seamless and weldable nickel-cobalt-iron alloy pipes, particularly alloy NO7718. This specification covers pipes of various sizes and wall thicknesses suitable for high-temperature and corrosive environments. The nickel-cobalt-iron alloy GH4169 is renowned for its excellent strength and high-temperature oxidation resistance. Pipes manufactured according to the ASTM B983 GH4169 standard are widely used in aerospace, chemical, and other high-performance applications.

 

GH4169 pipe is a high-temperature alloy pipe with extremely high nickel, chromium, and molybdenum content. This alloy pipe exhibits exceptional strength and creep rupture resistance at high temperatures. GH4169 alloy pipe is designed for cryogenic environments, with a maximum operating temperature of 1200 degrees Fahrenheit (approximately 650 degrees Celsius). Furthermore, these pipes exhibit excellent corrosion resistance in a wide range of applications. The addition of niobium to these pipes enables age hardening. This allows the pipes to spontaneously anneal and weld during heating and cooling cycles. These pipes have a design density of 8.192 g/cm³, a minimum tensile strength of 13,500 psi, and a minimum yield strength of 70,000 psi. GH4169 alloy pipes have an elongation of up to 25% and a Rockwell hardness of 100 B.

 

GH4169 pipes are specifically designed for high-temperature systems susceptible to corrosive media. These pipes are widely used in chemical processing, liquid-fuel rocket engines, casings, aerospace, pollution control equipment, and nuclear reactors. Furthermore, these pipes can be used to manufacture valves, fasteners, springs, cryogenic tanks, blowout preventers, and pipe supports.

 

Due to its unique properties, GH4169 alloy pipes are extremely difficult to machine. These modules undergo rapid work hardening during processing, and the presence of hard carbides in their microstructure makes machining challenging. It is precisely because of these characteristics that this grade of steel is well-suited for use in harsh environments, but this also makes machining it to the required dimensions exceptionally difficult.

This grade of seamless steel pipe is widely used in applications requiring operation in corrosive media and high-temperature environments. Compared to other structures, the robustness of seamless steel pipe gives it a higher load-bearing capacity.
