UNS N05500

UNS N05500 is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-copper alloy that combines the excellent corrosion resistance characteristic of Monel 400 with the added advantage of greater strength and hardness. These amplified properties, strength and hardness, are obtained by adding aluminum and titanium to the nickel-copper base and by a thermal processing used to effect precipitation, typically called age hardening or aging.

Product Introduction

UNS N05500 is a precipitation time hardenable nickel-copper alloy. The alloy is non-magnetic at temperatures below -101°C. The combination of low magnetic permeability, high strength and good corrosion resistance has been used in many applications, especially oil well measurement equipment and electronic components. The low temperature properties of UNS N05500 are excellent. The tensile and yield strengths increase with decreasing temperature, while ductility and toughness are hardly impaired. The ductile-brittle transition does not occur even at temperatures as low as -200°C. Therefore, the alloy is suitable for many cryogenic applications.

Characteristics of UNS N05500
  • Corrosion resistance in an extensive range of marine and chemical environments. From pure water to non-oxidizing mineral acids, salts and alkalis.
  • Excellent resistance to high velocity sea water.
  • Resistant to a sour-gas environment.
  • Excellent mechanical properties from sub-zero temperatures up to about 480C.
  • Non-magnetic alloy.
Monel Alloy UNS N05500 Hardness

Monel Alloy UNS N05500 is one of the more complex Monel alloys. It is well suited for demanding uses in deepwater infrastructure, gas and oil production systems, pumps, valves and fasteners. This unique Monel alloy has an impressive hardness of up to 54 HRC on the Rockwell C scale. It has high dynamic strength, allowing it to resist the dynamic stresses associated with marine hardware and components exposed to salt water spray. Monel UNS N05500 has significant corrosion resistance, which is critical for a wide range of environmental conditions. This model alloy's unique combination of properties means it is the material of choice for many demanding industrial applications.

Monel Alloy UNS N05500 Corrosion Resistance

Monel Alloy UNS N05500 has excellent corrosion resistance. This makes it ideal for use in applications where corrosion resistance is a priority, such as saltwater environments or environments with high acidity or alkalinity. It can also be used in components exposed to high humidity or other corrosive elements without worrying about damage or degradation over time.
