Monel K500 sheet is made of a nickel-copper alloy that contains at least 63% nickel and 28% copper, and also contains carbon, manganese, silicon, sulfur, and iron. Monel K-500 is used in a wide variety of demanding applications such as marine chains, cables, fasteners, and springs; chemical pump and valve components; pulp scrapers and blades; and oil well drill collars, instrumentation, pump shafts, and impellers. Its nonmagnetic properties are also valuable.
2. What is the ISO standard for Monel K500?
Monel K500 (UNS N05500) is an age-hardening nickel-copper alloy that is highly corrosion resistant and is particularly useful in marine, chemical, and oil well environments. It is certified to NACE MR 0175/ISO 15156 and API 6ACRA standards.
3. What is the maximum operating temperature for Monel K500?
Monel K500 maintains its mechanical properties at temperatures ranging from sub-zero to 480°C (896°F). Although it has a significantly higher melting point (1300-1350°C or 2372-2462°F) and a Curie temperature of 35°C (95°F), 480°C is the highest temperature at which mechanical properties are maintained.
4. What is the difference between Monel 400 and K500?
Monel K-500 is a higher purity version of Monel 400 with lower sulfur and manganese content. The higher purity gives K-500 better performance than Monel 400.
