ASTM Monel 400 Alloy Plate

Monel 400 is a Nickel-Copper alloy (Nickel Alloy 400) that offers good heat and corrosion resistance, along with high strength and weldability. Monel 400 Plate and Sheet is often used in sea water, salt and caustic applications due to its relatively High Nickel content. It offers a low corrosion rate in free flowing brackish or seawater applications. In addition, Monel 400 adds excellent corrosion resistance in most freshwater conditions, as well as in a variety of non-oxidizing corrosive conditions. This alloy also performs well in low temperature applications.

The length of the Nickel Alloy 400 Sheet ranges from 200mm to 6000mm and the width ranges from 1000mm to 2000mm and the thickness varies from 0.3mm to 20mm. The material is also hard with NACE MR 175 hardness score. The Monel 400 Sheet can come in different finishes such as the hot rolled or cold rolled finishes. The material supports, cutting, forming, grinding and polishing operations. The chemical composition of the material includes 63% nickel, iron, 28% copper, carbon, manganese, silicon and sulfur.

Monel Alloy 400 Sheet Specification Schedule

1. Corrosion resistance in an extensive range of marine and chemical environments. From pure water to nonoxidizing mineral acids, salts and alkalis.
2. This alloy is more resistant to nickel under reducing conditions and more resistant than copper under oxidizing conditions, it does show however better resistance to reducing media than oxidizing.
3. Good mechanical properties from subzero temperatures up to about 480C.
4. Good resistance to sulfuric and hydrofluoric acids. Aeration however will result in increased corrosion rates. May be used to handle hydrochloric acid, but the presence of oxidizing salts will greatly accelerate corrosive attack.
5. Resistance to neutral, alkaline and acid salts is shown, but poor resistance is found with oxidizing acid salts such as ferric chloride.
6. Excellent resistance to chloride ion stress corrosion cracking.
