What You Need to Know About Monel Alloy 400 Rod
Monel 400 alloy rod is a nickel-copper alloy renowned for its exceptional corrosion resistance, high strength, and superior toughness across a wide temperature range, particularly in marine and chemical environments. This solid-solution alloy, hardened by cold work, is well-suited for applications such as pump shafts, marine fittings, fasteners, and chemical processing equipment. Its ability to maintain mechanical properties at sub-zero temperatures and its strong resistance to acids and alkalis make it a key material in industries such as aerospace, offshore engineering, and nuclear power.
What is the maximum operating temperature of Monel 400?
Hot working temperatures range from 1700°F to 2150°F. Optimum working temperature is approximately 2000°F. By properly controlling the amount of hot working and/or cold working and selecting the appropriate heat treatment method, a wide range of mechanical properties can be achieved in the finished product.
Monel 400 round bar/Alloy 400 round bar offers good corrosion resistance, excellent weldability, and high strength. Monel 400 flat bar, Monel 400 hexagonal bar, and Monel 400 square bar are designated UNS N04400, with the work number 2.4360. Alloy 400 round bar is also known as Monel 400 round bar, Monel 400 alloy round bar, and Nickel Alloy 400 round bar. These Monel 400 forged bars, Monel 400 welding rods, and Monel 400 hollow bars are particularly resistant to hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acid corrosion after degassing. Monel 400 bar and Nickel 400 bar will corrode in sulfur-containing gases at temperatures exceeding approximately 700°F (approximately 327°C), while molten sulfur will attack the alloy at temperatures exceeding approximately 500°F (approximately 177°C).
