ASTM B407 incoloy 800HT nickel alloy large diameter bright annealed seamless pipe
ASTM B407 specifies seamless pipe made from Incoloy 800H and 800HT (nickel-iron-chromium alloys). While the standard covers seamless pipe, suppliers must also meet specific requirements for "large diameter," "bright annealing," and other special properties.

What is the difference between Incoloy 800 and 800H?
Incoloy 800 has a lower carbon content, typically around 0.05%, while Incoloy 800H has a higher carbon content, ranging from 0.05% to 0.10%. The higher carbon content of 800H improves its strength, making it more suitable for high-temperature applications.

Incoloy 800HT, composed of nickel, iron, and chromium, is suitable for high-temperature structural applications. Incoloy 800HT pipe offers good strength and excellent corrosion resistance. At high temperatures, Incoloy 800HT pipe exhibits excellent resistance to carburization and oxidation. ASTM B407 UNS N08811 material is very similar to other nickel alloys, except that it contains higher levels of carbon, aluminum, and titanium. The nickel content in Alloy 800HT pipe provides strong resistance to chloride stress corrosion and embrittlement. Solution-annealed Incoloy 800HT seamless pipe is known for its stress rupture and creep strength.

Incoloy 800HT and ASTM B407 Specifications
ASTM B407: This standard specifies seamless nickel-iron-chromium-based alloy pipe for general corrosion and heat-resistant applications. It specifically covers grades 800, 800H, and 800HT.
Incoloy 800HT (UNS N08811): This is a version of Incoloy 800 that has been specially treated to enhance creep and rupture resistance at elevated temperatures (typically above 1100°F (593°C)). Its chemical composition is carefully controlled, with particular emphasis on aluminum and titanium content.
Seamless Pipe: This type of pipe is formed from a solid piece of metal that is extruded or perforated to create a hollow tube. It lacks welds, resulting in increased strength and integrity, making it suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature applications.
Special Features and Availability
Large Diameter: "Large diameter" is not a standard size in the ASTM B407 specification but is defined by the manufacturer or supplier. Standard seamless sizes under ASTM B407 typically extend up to 6 inches (nominal inside diameter, NB), so larger sizes are considered custom orders and may be supplied by specialized fabricators.
Bright annealing: This refers to the final heat treatment and finishing of the pipe. Bright annealing is a process performed in a controlled atmosphere furnace to produce a clean, reflective, bright finish on the inside and outside of the pipe, free of oxidation. Suppliers may offer this finish, but it is not a default requirement under the ASTM standard.
Typical Applications
Large-diameter, bright-annealed Incoloy 800HT seamless pipe is suitable for applications requiring high-temperature strength, creep resistance, and a clean, corrosion-resistant surface. These applications may include:
Heat exchangers
Heat treatment equipment
Chemical and petrochemical processing plants
Power and nuclear power plants
