Hastelloy C276 is a low chromium alloy with up to 16% chromium content but its production process is more cost-effective than Hastelloy C22 Pipe. Hastelloy C276 has good corrosion resistance but not as good as C22 grade. The rest of the chemical composition is about 57% nickel and 16% molybdenum but the chromium content is less than 16%. At elevated temperatures, Hastelloy C22 Pipe is more resistant to oxidizing media than Hastelloy C276 Pipe. On the other hand, C22 and C276 have similar performance characteristics in decreasing environments. Oxalic acid and formic acid are commonly used as reducing agents. Due to its excellent weldability and alloying ability, C276 pipes are regularly used as weld fillers to improve corrosion resistance. Hastelloy C276 also has excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion in high temperature processing areas, but not as good as Hastelloy C22. Hastelloy C276 is not readily available, but is available in some product forms. However, it is difficult to find C276 grade high purity pipes and fittings. Due to the high molybdenum content, Hastelloy C276 alloy has high toughness, good weldability, and easy fabrication characteristics than any other steel grade.
