What is the difference between Inconel 600 flange and Inconel 601 flange?
Inconel 600 and Inconel 601 flanges are both nickel-chromium-iron alloys known for their high-temperature and corrosion resistance, but there are key differences between them. Because Inconel 601 flanges contain aluminum, they generally offer better oxidation resistance than Inconel 600 flanges at high temperatures (up to 2200°F). Difference Between Inconel 600 Flanges vs Inconel 601 Flanges
1) Composition
Both Inconel 600 and Inconel 601 flanges are nickel-chromium alloys, making them resistant to high temperatures and corrosion. However, Alloy 600 flanges have a slightly higher nickel content than Nickel Alloy 601 flanges, making them stronger and more durable. On the other hand, Inconel 601 flanges contain aluminum, making them more resistant to oxidation than Inconel 600 flanges.
2) Temperature resistance
One of the primary reasons for using Inconel flanges is their high-temperature resistance. Inconel 600 flanges can withstand temperatures up to 2000°F, making them suitable for most high-temperature applications. In contrast, Inconel 601 alloy flanges can withstand temperatures up to 2250°F, making them ideal for more demanding applications such as furnace pipes and petrochemical processing.
3) Corrosion resistance
Both Inconel 600 and Inconel 601 alloy flanges offer excellent corrosion resistance. However, Inconel 601 flanges offer superior resistance to aqueous corrosion, making them ideal for applications involving continuous exposure to harsh chemicals and acidic solutions. On the other hand, for areas not exposed to these harsh environments, Inconel 600 flanges offer a more cost-effective option.
