What are the differences between Inconel 601 and Inconel 625?

Inconel 601, with its added aluminum content, exhibits excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance, making it ideal for furnace components and heat exchangers. Inconel 625, due to its higher chromium, molybdenum, and niobium content, possesses superior overall corrosion resistance, especially in harsh/marine environments, and is therefore more suitable for chemical, aerospace, and marine components, although it is typically more expensive. The advantage of 601 lies in its thermal stability and resistance to scale formation, while 625 offers superior strength and resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.

Is Inconel 601 magnetic?

Inconel 601 sheet is a non-magnetic nickel-chromium alloy. Its properties include high-temperature strength comparable to 18-8 alloys and high corrosion resistance to organic and inorganic corrosive agents. 601 alloy sheet performs exceptionally well in temperature ranges from cryogenic temperatures up to 2000°F.

Inconel 601 sheet

Inconel 601 sheet is a nickel-chromium alloy with excellent oxidation resistance, up to 2200°F. Even under extreme temperature cycling, the 601 alloy forms a strongly adherent oxide layer that resists spalling. This alloy exhibits good high-temperature strength and maintains its ductility even after prolonged use. This is due to its high corrosion and heat resistance.

Inconel 625 sheet is a nickel alloy with exceptional corrosion resistance and a high-toughness, strengthened alloy matrix. It is a corrosion-resistant alloy that also exhibits resistivity that varies with temperature. Inconel 625 sheet is a non-magnetic, corrosion-resistant, and oxidation-resistant nickel-based alloy. The excellent strength and toughness of Alloy 625 in this temperature range are attributed to the solid solution strengthening effect of the refractory elements niobium and molybdenum in the nickel-chromium matrix.
