Hastelloy C-276 is a nickel-molybdenum-chromium superalloy with the expansion properties of tungsten, designed for excellent corrosion resistance in a variety of severe conditions. High nickel alloying and molybdenum species make the nickel steel alloy particularly resistant to pitting and crevice corrosion in reducing conditions, while chromium provides resistance to oxidizing media. The low carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation during welding to maintain the corrosion resistance of the welded structure. These nickel alloys resist the formation of grain limit acceleration in the heat affected zone of the weld, making them suitable for most chemical process applications in the as-welded condition.
