UNS NO8825 alloy food heat container pipe

UNS NO8825 alloy food heat container pipe
UNS N08825 alloy pipe, also known as Incoloy 825 pipe, is a nickel-based alloy used for food heating containers and piping due to its excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical strength. It is particularly suitable for applications involving corrosive foods, high temperatures, and frequent heating.
What is the difference between N06625 and N08825?
Inconel 625 vs. Incoloy 825 (UNS N06625 vs. UNS N08825)
Inconel 625 and Incoloy 825 are the two most important nickel alloys used in the oil and gas industry. The primary difference between the two materials is their nickel content: Inconel 625 has a minimum nickel content of 58%, while Incoloy 825 has a nickel content between 38% and 46%.

UNS N08825 Thermal Vessel Tube Composition and Properties
Composition: UNS N08825 is a nickel-iron-chromium alloy with additions of molybdenum, copper, and titanium. The high nickel content provides resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, while the chromium enhances resistance to oxidizing agents such as nitric acid. The addition of molybdenum and copper further enhances its resistance to reducing environments (such as sulfuric and phosphoric acids), as well as pitting and crevice corrosion.
Heat Resistance: The alloy maintains good mechanical properties up to 540°C (1000°F). However, exposure above this temperature causes microstructural changes that reduce its toughness and ductility.
Corrosion Resistance: It offers excellent resistance to a wide range of corrosive environments, including oxidizing and reducing acids, making it more effective than standard stainless steels such as SS316 in many applications.
Weldability: The alloy welds easily using common techniques. Titanium is added to stabilize the alloy and prevent sensitization to intergranular corrosion after welding.
825 Food Heating Vessels and Piping Applications
UNS N08825's properties are well-suited for industrial food processing equipment requiring high corrosion resistance and durability.
Corrosive Foods: The alloy's resistance to organic and other acids makes it an ideal material for processing acidic foods and beverages without degradation.
Heating Vessels: It can be used in "hot containers" for holding and heating food and water, and resists the corrosive effects of sustained heating.
Heat Exchangers and Piping: In food production, it is used in heat exchangers, evaporators, and piping that transports hot liquids (including seawater) and various acidic mixtures encountered during processing.
Clean Processes: The alloy can withstand chemical disinfectants and corrosive cleaning agents used in food and beverage production, ensuring equipment remains sanitary and food safety.
Food Safety Considerations:
While UNS N08825 is approved for use in applications involving food, it is important to confirm its suitability for use in specific food production processes.
Maximum Temperature: For heat-related applications, designers must ensure that operating temperatures do not exceed the alloy's service limit (approximately 540°C), which may compromise its mechanical properties. Industry Standards: Manufacturers and processors should verify that their specific application complies with all relevant food-grade certifications and food handling industry standards.
