Nickel Alloy 718 Bright Rod

Learn about Nickel Alloy 718 Bright Rod
Nickel Alloy 718 (INCONEL 718) bright bar is a high-strength, precipitation-hardenable nickel-chromium alloy enriched with iron, niobium, and molybdenum. It is known for its excellent tensile strength, creep resistance, and corrosion resistance from cryogenic to elevated temperatures (up to 704°C or 1300°F). Originally developed for the aerospace industry and widely used in the oil and gas industry, the alloy offers good ductility, oxidation resistance, and weldability. It is typically supplied in the solution annealed and hardened (aged) condition for maximum strength, but other tempers are also available.
What are the properties of 718 nickel alloy?
718 alloy is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-based alloy with extremely high yield strength, tensile strength, and creep-rupture properties at temperatures up to 700°C. 718 alloy exhibits a slow age-hardening reaction, meaning it does not spontaneously harden during heating and cooling, making it suitable for annealing and welding.

Inconel 718 Bright Bar Applications
Aerospace: Aircraft engine components, airframe structures, and high-temperature fasteners.
Oil and Gas: Downhole tools, underground safety valves, wellhead components, fasteners, and precision tubing.
Other: Gas turbines and other high-strength, high-temperature applications.
"Bright Bar" Terminology
Bright Surface: "Bright" refers to the smooth, bright, polished surface finish of the bar.
Manufacturing Process: This surface is achieved during or after bar production through specialized finishing processes, typically including grinding or polishing.
Aged Condition: "Bright bar" is typically supplied in the aged (precipitation hardened) condition, maintaining the high strength and hardness of the material at the time of shipment.
