Information on Incoloy 800, 800H, and 800HT high-temperature piping
Incoloy 800, 800H, and 800HT are nickel-iron-chromium alloys used for high-temperature piping, primarily differing in carbon content and alloying elements: 800 (basic type) tubing is for general use; 800H (higher carbon content, controlled grain structure) alloy tubing offers improved creep resistance; and 800HT (with strict control of aluminum/titanium content) seamless tubing provides superior creep/rupture strength at temperatures above 600°C, making it ideal for petrochemical, power generation, and furnace components. They exhibit excellent oxidation and carburization resistance, with 800HT tubing performing best in extreme high-temperature environments, suitable for critical systems such as furnace tubes, heat exchangers, and process piping.
What is the heat treatment process for Incoloy 800 alloy?
The chemical composition of INCOLOY 800HT alloy falls within the composition range of 800H alloy, but with certain restrictions, and requires heat treatment at a minimum temperature of 2100°F (1149°C). Its carbon content is 0.06% to 0.10% (compared to 0.05% to 0.10% for 800H alloy), and its aluminum + titanium content is 0.85% to 1.20% (compared to 0.30% to 1.20% for 800H alloy).

Incoloy 800, Incoloy 800H, and Incoloy 800HT high-temperature pipes/tubes exhibit exceptional performance in corrosive environments. These alloys are specifically designed to withstand oxidation, carburization, and sulfidation at high temperatures. The high nickel content of the Incoloy 800 series alloys provides excellent corrosion resistance in both reducing and oxidizing environments. Furthermore, the chromium and iron elements in the alloy composition enhance its oxidation resistance, forming a protective oxide layer on the surface, thus preventing further corrosion.
Incoloy 800/800H/800HT high-temperature pipes/tubes also demonstrate excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and general corrosion in chloride-containing environments. This characteristic makes them suitable for applications exposed to chloride-rich environments, such as marine environments and chemical plants.

Main Differences and Characteristics of Incoloy 800/800H/800HT
Incoloy 800 (UNS N08800): The basic grade, suitable for moderate high-temperature environments (up to approximately 650°C).
Incoloy 800H (UNS N08810): Higher carbon content and controlled grain size, resulting in higher creep strength and stress rupture strength compared to 800.
Incoloy 800HT (UNS N08811): Stricter limits on aluminum/titanium content, offering the highest creep strength and rupture strength, best suited for demanding conditions (above 600°C/1100°F).
Common Applications of Incoloy 800/800H/800HT
Hydrocarbon processing: Steam/hydrocarbon reforming, ethylene production (convection/cracking tubes).
Power generation: Superheater/reheater tubes, headers, furnace equipment.
Petrochemicals: Process piping, vessels, heat exchangers.
Heat treatment: Furnace components, carburizing fixtures, heating element sheaths.
Advantages of Incoloy 800/800H/800HT
Corrosion resistance: Excellent resistance to oxidation, carburization, and sulfidation at high temperatures.
