Inconel 601 and Incoloy 800H materials

Inconel 601 and Incoloy 800H are both high-performance nickel-based alloys used in extreme high-temperature environments, but they differ in composition and main strength characteristics: Inconel 601 is a Ni-Cr-Al-Fe alloy with a high nickel content (>60%), possessing excellent oxidation/carburization resistance and high-temperature strength, and is commonly used in furnace components; Incoloy 800H is an Fe-Ni-Cr alloy (with a nickel content of approximately 30%), with controlled levels of carbon, aluminum, and titanium, exhibiting superior creep/rupture strength and good corrosion resistance, making it an ideal material for the petrochemical industry and steam generators. The key difference is that Inconel 601 focuses on surface protection (through the addition of aluminum), while the "H" version of Incoloy 800H emphasizes improved creep resistance (by controlling the content of carbon, aluminum, and titanium) to suit long-term stress environments.

What are the uses of Inconel 601?

The properties of INCONEL 601 alloy make it widely used in heat treatment, chemical processing, pollution control, aerospace, and power generation. 601 alloy is a common structural material for various heat treatment equipment.

Inconel 601

Inconel 601 (UNS N06601)
Composition: High nickel (>60%), chromium (approximately 21-25%), aluminum (approximately 1-1.7%), iron (balance).
Main advantages: Excellent high-temperature strength, superior oxidation and carburization resistance (due to the presence of aluminum).
Applications: Heat treatment, furnace components, gas turbine components, petrochemical processing.

Incoloy 800H (UNS N08810)
Composition: Iron-nickel-chromium alloy (approximately 30-35% nickel, approximately 19-23% chromium), with controlled carbon content (minimum 0.05%), aluminum, and titanium.
Main advantages: High creep rupture strength, good resistance to high-temperature oxidation, carburization, and chloride stress corrosion cracking.
Applications: Steam generator tubes, furnace components, petrochemicals, power generation, heat treatment equipment.

Main differences between Inconel 601 and Incoloy 800H:
Nickel content: 601 has a significantly higher nickel content, making it more of a "nickel alloy"; 800H is an "iron-nickel-chromium" alloy.
Strengthening mechanism: 800H utilizes carbon, aluminum, and titanium to strengthen grain boundaries, thereby improving creep resistance; 601 primarily relies on its nickel-chromium-aluminum matrix for improved oxidation resistance.
Optimal applications: 601 performs excellently in pure high-temperature/oxidizing environments; 800H exhibits better mechanical integrity when subjected to stress for extended periods at high temperatures.
