Inconel 600 alloy tubing vs Nickel 601 tubing

Both Inconel 600 and Inconel 601 alloy tubes are nickel-chromium alloys used in high-temperature environments, but Inconel 601 seamless tubes (with added aluminum) offer superior performance in high-temperature oxidation (e.g., for furnaces and heat treatment), forming a protective oxide layer. Inconel 600 welded tubes, on the other hand, have stronger resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking (SCC), making them more suitable for humid, corrosive environments such as chemical processing and marine applications. For dry, high-temperature environments, choose 601 tubes; for harsh, aqueous/chemical corrosive environments, choose Nickel 600 tubes.

Is Inconel 600 magnetic?

Inconel 600 is non-magnetic and possesses excellent mechanical properties, combining high strength with good workability, and is easily welded. The cold-forming characteristics of the 600 alloy are similar to those of chromium-nickel stainless steel.

Is Inconel 600 Magnetic

Inconel 600 and 601 alloy tubes are among the most commonly used and popular alloys in the Inconel superalloy series. They are renowned for their exceptional corrosion resistance, strength, durability, and high-temperature performance. The main difference between the two is that Inconel 600 tubes have a higher chromium content (minimum 15%), while Inconel 601 alloy tubes have a higher nickel content (minimum 85%). Both alloys exhibit high tensile strength at extreme temperatures, capable of withstanding temperatures up to 2200°F with minimal performance degradation, making them ideal for various industrial applications such as cryogenic storage tanks, nuclear reactors, and gas turbines. Furthermore, they possess excellent formability, allowing them to be fabricated into complex shapes while maintaining their structural integrity and surface finish.

Temperature Resistance of Inconel 600 and 601 Alloy Tubes:
One of the most important considerations when choosing Inconel 600 and Inconel 601 tubes is their temperature resistance. Inconel 600 tubes have a maximum operating temperature of 1150°C (2102°F), making them suitable for applications requiring high strength and excellent oxidation and carburization resistance at high temperatures. In contrast, Inconel 601 tubes have a maximum operating temperature of 1200°C (2192°F), making them more suitable for applications requiring high temperature and corrosion resistance in sulfur-containing environments.

Corrosion Resistance of Inconel 600 and 601 Alloy Tubes:
Both Inconel 600 and Inconel 601 alloy tubes exhibit excellent corrosion resistance in various environments. However, due to their different chemical compositions, their resistance to specific types of corrosion may differ. Inconel 600 welded tubes are resistant to sulfuric and hydrochloric acid corrosion but may be susceptible to stress corrosion cracking in chloride environments. On the other hand, Inconel 601 seamless tubes have greater resistance to stress corrosion cracking. They exhibit excellent corrosion resistance in sulfur-containing environments, making them an ideal choice for applications in the chemical processing industry.
