Incoloy 800, 800H, and 800HT are iron-nickel-chromium alloys, primarily differing in their carbon, aluminum (Al), and titanium (Ti) content. The 800 alloy is a general-purpose alloy, while the 800H alloy improves creep strength by controlling the carbon content (0.05-0.10%). The 800HT alloy further restricts the total content of aluminum and titanium (0.85-1.2%) to achieve superior high-temperature strength. These alloys are often dual-certified as 800H/HT to allow for broader applications in areas such as furnaces, heat exchangers, and chemical processing.
What are 800H and 800HT?
800H/800HT alloys are high-strength, high-temperature resistant alloys used as alternatives to the commonly used 600 series alloys. They have widespread applications in numerous industries, including aerospace, petrochemicals, and chemical processing. Main Specifications and Characteristics
Alloy 800 (N08800): Good strength and corrosion resistance, suitable for high-temperature environments up to approximately 650°C (1200°F).
Alloy 800H (N08810): Solution heat-treated with controlled carbon content, offering improved creep/stress rupture strength.
Alloy 800HT (N08811): Higher aluminum + titanium content for improved high-temperature strength, creep performance, and stability; excellent resistance to carburization/oxidation.
Dual Certification: Often supplied as 800H/HT (N08810/N08811), offering versatility and meeting the requirements of both specifications.
Grain Size: Unlike standard Alloy 800, Alloys 800H and 800HT require a coarser grain size (ASTM Grade 5 or coarser) for optimal creep performance.
ASTM Standards: Commonly used specifications include B407 (tubing) and B409 (plate/sheet).
