What is the ISO standard for Monel K500?
Alloy K500, 2.4375, UNS N05500, Monel Alloy K-500 – Description
Alloy K500 (Monel K500, UNS N05500) is a nickel-copper based alloy consisting of titanium and aluminum alloys that is age-hardenable and extremely corrosion resistant in marine environments, chemical processing and oil well environments. It is certified to NACE MR 0175 / ISO 15156 and API 6ACRA. It can be considered as a stronger and harder variant of Monel Alloy 400. It has high tensile strength up to 650°C in the aged condition. It can be used in the cold-formed or hot-formed condition or in the solution-annealed or age-hardened condition with subsequent heat treatment.
Monel K-500 is virtually non-magnetic, which is important in certain applications, such as oil exploration equipment and electronic components. However, a magnetic surface layer may form during processing, especially on fine wire or strip. Pickling or bright dipping in acid removes the magnetic film. The alloy is suitable for many cryogenic applications as the ductile to brittle transition does not occur at temperatures as low as liquid hydrogen. Monel Alloy K-500 is approved by the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code for use as a bolting material up to 235°C.
Applications
Used in offshore engineering (valve seals, wear rings), shipbuilding (fasteners, mounting elements), oil drilling and oil processing (pump shafts, pump impellers, oil well rings, springs, valve trim), chemical processing (pump and valve components), paper industry (scrapers, scrapers), and aircraft instrument components.
