What Is Monel?
Monel is a trade name that refers to a copper-nickel alloy. There are many different types of Monel, each with its own advantages. This alloy is much stronger than nickel alone, highly resistant to corrosion and highly weldable.
Each of the five main types of Monel is optimized for a different application, making it a versatile alloy that can bring benefits to many different industries. Some properties and common uses of Monel include:
Monel 400: Monel 400 has a wide temperature range and excellent corrosion resistance, making it ideal for applications ranging from gasoline tanks to electronic components.
Monel K-500: Low permeability, high strength and corrosion resistance make it a popular choice for equipment such as marine propeller shafts, scrapers and oil well tools.
Monel K-500 Rev E: Produced to QQN 286 Form 1 specification, version E is best suited to provide corrosion resistance in sour gas environments.
Monel K-500 Rev F: Designed for parts that must be solution annealed at 2050°F due to the presence of titanium carbide. Revision F complies with QQN 286 Form 2 specification.
Monel K-500 Rev G: Rev G is designed to pass slow strain rate tensile testing and conforms to QQN 286 Form 2 and is best suited for applications that are less prone to intergranular cracking.
Monel R-405: Commonly found in fasteners, screw machine products and valve parts.
