What is Monel 400 used for?
About Alloy 400 / Monel 400
Solid solution alloys can be hardened by cold working, but they can also be hot or cold worked and then annealed into complex fabricated parts and welded using appropriate welding processes.
Petroleum distillation column internals, fasteners and fittings, pump and valve internals have used the alloy for more than 100 years since its introduction to the market in 1905.
Monel 400 is used in the marine sector in process vessels, heat exchanger piping and gasoline and drinking water storage tanks. The alloy's non-sparking properties make it suitable for high-risk situations in the explosives industry, rockets and the pulp and paper industry.
The alloy has high mechanical properties, ductility and resistance to atmospheric corrosion and is used as rivets in aluminum-skinned aircraft and aluminum ladder structures.
Alloy 400 can be used in a variety of applications
packed column
Pressure vessels and reactors
salt water heater
heat exchanger
Salt making equipment
Pump and valve components
Pipework and Pipe Segments
