What is K500 Monel?
Overview
MONEL K500 is an age-hardenable nickel-copper alloy that combines the corrosion resistance of Alloy 400 with high strength for corrosion fatigue and corrosion resistance.
MONEL K500 is a nickel-copper alloy that is precipitation hardenable by the addition of aluminum and titanium. Compared to 400, MONEL K500 retains the excellent corrosion resistance characteristics of 400 and has increased strength and hardness after precipitation hardening. Alloy K500 has approximately three (3) times the yield strength and approximately twice the tensile strength of 400. MONEL K500 can be further strengthened by cold working prior to precipitation hardening.

Excellent mechanical properties from sub-zero temperatures to approximately 480C.
Corrosion resistance in a wide range of marine and chemical environments. From pure water to non-oxidizing mineral acids, salts and alkalis.
Applications
Propellers and pump shafts.
Used in the manufacture of pumps and valves for perchloroethylene, chlorinated plastics.
MONEL K500 has high strength and corrosion resistance, and its typical applications include pump shafts, impellers, propeller shafts, valve components for ships and offshore rigs, bolts, oil well drill collars, and instrumentation components for oil and gas production. It is particularly suitable for centrifugal pumps in the marine industry due to its high strength and low corrosion rate in high-velocity seawater.
MONEL K500 is non-magnetic. MONEL K500 should be annealed when welded, and then the weldment should be stress relieved before aging.
