What is alloy 20 also known as?
Alloy 20, is an austenitic nickel-iron-chromium alloy. This superalloy, which also contains copper and molybdenum, is widely used in the production of gasoline, solvents, explosives, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food and synthetic materials. It provides users with multiple benefits, including:
Excellent resistance to corrosion, crevice corrosion and pitting corrosion
Ideal for use around sulfuric, phosphoric and nitric acids
Ease of fabrication and improved mechanical properties
Alloy 20 offers flat bars, forgings, hexagonal bars, plates, tubes, sheets, strips, rounds, tubes and wires, and can process and produce:

Mixing tank
heat exchanger
Process piping
Pickling equipment
Pumps, valves, fasteners and accessories
Alloy 20 meets or exceeds various industry standards, including numerous ASTM, ASME, ISO and DIN standards. Alloy 20 can be welded by TIG, MIG and SAW and can be formed by hot and cold working.
Alloy 20 has a unique chemical composition:
Iron 31-44% balance
Nickel 32.5-35%
Chromium 19-21%
Copper 3-4%
Molybdenum 2-3%
There is some debate as to whether Alloy 20 is a nickel or stainless steel alloy due to its higher nickel content (32-38%). No matter which side of the discussion you fall on, it's clear that Alloy 20 is an excellent choice for a variety of industries and applications. At GNEE Steel we are proud to stock and sell Nickel Alloy 20 in all popular sizes and forms
