Nickel Alloy Plate Nickel Super Alloy N06601 6023 Inconel 601 Sheet

1. What is Inconel 601 (UNS N06601) and what are its key alloying elements?

Inconel 601 is a nickel-chromium alloy with aluminum additions. Its nominal composition is about 58–63% nickel, 21–25% chromium, and up to 1.5% aluminum, which gives it excellent oxidation and scaling resistance at high temperatures.

2. What are the typical applications of Inconel 601 plates and sheets?

Inconel 601 is widely used in industrial furnaces, heat-treating equipment, gas turbines, petrochemical processing, power plants, and catalyst support grids. It is also applied in thermal processing baskets, muffles, and annealing tubes.

3. How does Inconel 601 perform in high-temperature service?

It maintains mechanical strength and oxidation resistance up to around 1200 °C (2200 °F). The presence of aluminum enhances the formation of a protective oxide film, making it highly resistant to scaling and spalling under thermal cycling.

4. What are the advantages of using Inconel 601 sheet compared with stainless steel?

While stainless steels (e.g., 310S) can handle moderate high-temperature service, Inconel 601 provides far superior oxidation resistance, longer service life, and better structural stability in aggressive high-heat and corrosive environments.

5. What standards and certifications cover Inconel 601 plates and sheets?

They are manufactured in accordance with ASTM B168 / ASME SB168 for flat products of Inconel 601. Standard supply includes EN 10204 3.1 certification, with optional 3.2 third-party inspection (TÜV, SGS, BV), mechanical property testing, chemical analysis, and non-destructive examinations (e.g., ultrasonic testing).
