Is Alloy C276 A Hastelloy?

Is alloy C276 a Hastelloy?

Overview

HASTELLOY C276 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum wrought alloy considered the most versatile corrosion-resistant alloy. The alloy resists the formation of grain boundary precipitates in the welding heat affected zone and is therefore suitable for most chemical process applications under welding conditions. Alloy C-276 also provides excellent resistance to pitting corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, and oxidizing atmospheres up to 1900°F. Alloy C-276 offers excellent resistance to a wide range of chemical environments.

feature

HASTELLOY C276 is one of the few alloys resistant to wet chloride gases, hypochlorite and chlorine dioxide solutions.
HASTELLOY C276 has excellent resistance to strong oxidizing salt solutions such as ferric chloride and copper chloride.
HASTELLOY C276 is less susceptible to grain boundary precipitation under welding conditions, making it suitable for many chemical process applications

Application areas

Digesters and bleaching units in the paper industry.
Parts exposed to acidic gases.
Flue gas desulfurization equipment.
Evaporators, heat exchangers, filters and mixers used in sulfuric acid environments.
Sulfuric acid reactor.
Organochloride process equipment.
Process equipment using halide or acid catalysts.

Some typical applications for HASTELLOY C276 include equipment components in chemical and petrochemical organochloride processes and processes using halide or acid catalysts. Other industrial applications include pulp and paper (digesters and bleaching areas), flue gas desulfurization scrubbers and ducts, pharmaceutical and food processing equipment.

Is alloy C276 a Hastelloy?

HASTELLOY C-276 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy that offers universal corrosion resistance unmatched by any other alloy. It has excellent resistance to a wide range of chemical process environments, including ferric and copper chlorides, thermally contaminated inorganic acids, solvents, chlorine and chlorine contamination (organic and inorganic), dry chlorine, formic and acetic acids, acetic anhydride , seawater and brine solutions and hypochlorite and chlorine dioxide solutions. Alloy C276 also resists the formation of grain boundary precipitates in the weld heat affected zone, making it useful in most chemical processes in the welded state. It has excellent resistance to pitting corrosion and stress corrosion cracking.

HASTELLOY C276 sheet is 0.044" thick when heat treated at 2050°F, rapidly quenched, and has an average Olson cup depth of 0.48". Alloy C-276 can be successfully manufactured by a variety of methods. The alloy is easily work hardened, but if properly cared for, the alloy is easily hot and cold formed. Provides complete information on welding, machining and forming
