Introduction to the implementation standards and applications of Inconel 600 nickel-based alloy seamless pipes
I. Introduction
Inconel 600 nickel-based alloy seamless pipes occupy an important position in many industrial fields due to their excellent corrosion resistance, high temperature stability and good comprehensive performance. Understanding their implementation standards and applications is of key significance for ensuring product quality and expanding the scope of application.
II. Implementation standards
(I) International standards
ASTM standards
ASTM B167 covers the standard specifications for seamless nickel-chromium-iron alloy pipes. Under this standard framework, Inconel 600 seamless pipes have made clear provisions for chemical composition, mechanical properties, dimensional tolerances, etc. In terms of chemical composition, the nickel (Ni) content must be no less than 72.0%, the chromium (Cr) content must be between 14.0% and 17.0%, and the iron (Fe) content must be between 6.0% and 10.0%. The performance stability of the alloy is guaranteed by precisely controlling the content of each element. In terms of mechanical properties, the tensile strength at room temperature is stipulated to be not less than 550MPa, the yield strength is not less than 240MPa, and the elongation is not less than 30%, ensuring that the seamless pipe can withstand the corresponding load in actual use. In terms of dimensional tolerance, the allowable deviations of the outer diameter, wall thickness and other dimensions of the seamless pipe are defined in detail to meet the requirements of pipe accuracy in different application scenarios.
ASTM B517 puts forward requirements for the performance of Inconel 600 seamless pipes in high temperature environments for seamless and welded nickel and nickel alloy pipes for high temperature services. In terms of high-temperature mechanical properties, the endurance strength and creep performance indicators at different temperature points (such as 538℃, 649℃, etc.) are stipulated to ensure that the seamless pipe can operate stably for a long time under high temperature conditions without excessive deformation or fracture. At the same time, there are corresponding testing methods and qualified judgment standards for the oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance of pipes in high temperature environments to ensure the reliability of pipes in high temperature and complex environments.
ASME Standard
ASME SA - 167 is equivalent to ASTM B167. It provides an important basis for the selection and quality control of Inconel 600 seamless pipes in engineering fields that follow ASME specifications, such as the chemical industry and the power industry. This standard also emphasizes the requirements for chemical composition, mechanical properties, and dimensional accuracy, and is consistent with the overall specifications of ASME in terms of quality system and inspection process, ensuring that the entire process of pipes from production to installation and use meets strict engineering standards. In the ASME boiler and pressure vessel specifications, when using Inconel 600 seamless pipes to manufacture related components, there are also detailed regulations on the quality traceability of pipes and welding process assessment, which further ensures the safety and reliability of the project.

(II) Domestic standards
GB/T standards
GB/T 15062 "General purpose high temperature alloy pipes" regulates the technical requirements for high temperature alloy pipes including Inconel 600. In terms of chemical composition, it is in line with international standards, strictly controls the content range of each element, and ensures the performance of the alloy. In terms of mechanical properties, the tensile performance indicators at room temperature and high temperature, as well as the hardness requirements, are specified to ensure that the mechanical properties of the pipe under different temperature conditions meet the use requirements. In terms of dimensional tolerance, according to the different uses and specifications of the pipe, the corresponding dimensional tolerance standards are formulated to ensure the interchangeability and installation accuracy of the pipe.
Although GB/T 13296 "Stainless Steel Seamless Pipes for Boilers and Heat Exchangers" is mainly aimed at stainless steel seamless pipes, it also has a certain reference value for the use of Inconel 600 seamless pipes in similar application scenarios such as boilers and heat exchangers. In terms of corrosion resistance, requirements are put forward for the corrosion resistance of pipes in common corrosive media (such as steam, water, acid and alkali solutions, etc.), and corresponding detection methods are specified. In terms of the surface quality of the pipe, the surface should be smooth, free of cracks, folds, rolling, delamination and other defects to ensure the reliability and safety of the pipe during use.
Industry standards
In the petrochemical industry, SH/T 3405 "Petrochemical Steel Pipe Size Series" uniformly stipulates the size specifications of Inconel 600 seamless pipes, which is convenient for selecting suitable pipes in petrochemical engineering design and construction. This standard formulates corresponding nominal diameter, outer diameter, wall thickness and other dimensional parameters according to different pipe diameters and wall thickness series, which improves the versatility and interchangeability of pipes in the petrochemical field. In the power industry, DL/T 791 "Technical Guidelines for the Organization Structure and Mechanical Properties of Alloy Steel Pipes for Thermal Power Plants" provides technical guidance on the application of Inconel 600 seamless pipes in high-temperature and high-pressure pipeline systems of thermal power plants from the aspects of organizational structure analysis and mechanical properties inspection, ensuring the safe and reliable operation of pipes in power production environments.
III. Application fields
(I) Petrochemical industry
Oil refining unit: In the oil refining process, crude oil and its fractions are corrosive, and the operating temperature and pressure are high. Inconel 600 seamless pipes are widely used in pipeline systems of atmospheric and vacuum distillation units, catalytic cracking units, hydrocracking units, etc. due to their excellent corrosion resistance and high temperature strength. In the top condensation system of the atmospheric and vacuum distillation tower, the use of Inconel 600 seamless pipes can effectively resist the erosion of corrosive components such as sulfur and chlorine in crude oil, prevent pipeline corrosion and leakage, and ensure the long-term stable operation of the unit. In the reaction oil and gas pipeline of the catalytic cracking unit, the seamless pipe can withstand high temperature and high pressure reaction oil and gas, and is not easily damaged by corrosion and thermal fatigue, ensuring the smooth progress of the catalytic cracking reaction.
Chemical reaction unit: In chemical production, many reaction processes involve highly corrosive media and high temperature environments. Inconel 600 seamless pipes can be used to transport various chemical raw materials, intermediates and products. In the synthetic ammonia production unit, Inconel 600 seamless pipes are often used in key parts such as its converter tubes and waste heat boiler tubes. The reformer tubes work in an environment with high temperature (about 800℃ - 1000℃), high pressure (about 3MPa - 5MPa) and corrosive gases such as hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide. The corrosion resistance and high temperature strength of Inconel 600 seamless pipes can ensure the long-term stable operation of the furnace tubes, prevent pipeline rupture caused by corrosion and creep, and ensure the continuity and safety of synthetic ammonia production. In the chlor-alkali industry, the use of Inconel 600 seamless pipes for pipelines that transport high-temperature and high-concentration caustic soda solutions can effectively resist the corrosion of caustic soda solutions, extend the service life of pipelines, and reduce equipment maintenance costs.
