Monel K500 plate can be further strengthened by cold working prior to the precipitation hardening process. Since rolled nickel-copper-based Monel 400 is covered by the ASTM B127 specification, it can be used to make components such as plate, ASTM B127 Monel K500 sheet, and strip. Again, like Monel 400 alloy, the material used to make UNS N05500 Monel K500 strip must meet not only the mechanical properties required by the specification, but also the chemical composition requirements of the specified K500 B127 alloy coil.

The specified Monel K500 alloy strip covers mechanical properties such as tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, Rockwell hardness, and meets the required grain size requirements. Since the alloy has a higher tensile strength than the parent alloy, Monel K500 alloy 2.4375 cold rolled plate exhibits excellent mechanical properties over a wide temperature range from sub-zero to as high as 480 degrees Celsius.

Monel K-500 is used in a wide variety of demanding applications such as marine chains, cables, fasteners, and springs; chemical pump and valve components; pulp scrapers and blades; and oil well drill collars, instrumentation, pump shafts, and impellers. Its nonmagnetic properties are also valuable.

Monel K500 (UNS N05500) is an age-hardening nickel-copper alloy that is highly corrosion resistant and is particularly useful in marine, chemical, and oil well environments. It is certified to NACE MR 0175/ISO 15156 and API 6ACRA standards.
3. What is the maximum operating temperature for Monel K500?
Monel K500 maintains its mechanical properties at temperatures ranging from sub-zero to 480°C (896°F). Although it has a significantly higher melting point (1300-1350°C or 2372-2462°F) and a Curie temperature of 35°C (95°F), 480°C is the highest temperature at which mechanical properties are maintained.
