Why Monel 400?

Why Monel 400?

Monel 400 (also known as Alloy 400) is an attractive option for industries where corrosion resistance is important.

Monel 400, when degassed, is resistant to steam and seawater as well as highly corrosive solutions such as sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid and hydrofluoric acid. It has excellent weldability and can withstand very high pressure and weight. The alloy has excellent mechanical properties at sub-zero temperatures, has a melting point of 2370° – 2460° F, and the product can be used at temperatures up to 1000° C.

Monel 400 works in a variety of acidic and alkaline environments and has excellent ductility and thermal conductivity. Its properties make it ideal for heavy-duty applications and those requiring high melting point and toughness under the harshest conditions.

Monel 400 Applications
Monel 400 is critical in heat exchangers, chemical plant equipment and boiler feed water installations. It is ideal in wire or rod form and is ideal for trolling lines due to its seawater resistance. Monel 400 offers excellent quality for different types of mechanical and general engineering applications. Its toughness makes it suitable for use in nuclear power plants, mining, cement and the oil and gas industry.

Industrial applications include:

heat exchanger
Crude oil distillation tower
propeller and pump shaft
Refinery crude tower
Pickling rod heating coil
Feed water and steam generator piping
Valves, pumps, fittings and fasteners
crude oil still
Sulfuric acid and hydrofluoric acid alkylation unit
Heater degassing
Gasoline and fresh water tanks
Chemical and hydrocarbon processing equipment
Chlorinated solvent
Brine heaters and seawater scrubbers in tanker inert gas systems
metal musical instrument
Monel 400 is resistant to most salts, water, alkalis, organic substances, food and atmospheric conditions at both ambient and elevated temperatures.
