Corrosion resistance
Alloy 400 exhibits excellent corrosion resistance to hydrofluoric acid and many reducing media, and performs better against oxidizing media than high-copper alloys. It is one of the few alloys that can be used in contact with fluorine and hydrogen fluoride. Alloy 400 is highly resistant to various forms of sulfuric and hydrochloric acids as well as alkalis under reducing conditions. Alloy 400 is also resistant to stress corrosion cracking and pitting in most freshwater and industrial waters, and has excellent corrosion resistance in flowing seawater, making it widely used in chemical and marine engineering applications.
