What material is the drill bit of Incoloy 800?

Due to its strong hardness and corrosion resistance, it is very important to choose the right drill bit material during processing, especially when drilling.
1. Carbide drill bits
Carbide drill bits are usually the first choice for drilling Incoloy 800 alloy. Carbide (such as tungsten alloy) has very high hardness and wear resistance, and can effectively cut harder materials. Carbide drill bits can withstand high temperature working conditions, are not easy to wear, and are suitable for working under high heat and high pressure.
Its advantages include:
High wear resistance
High temperature resistance
High cutting efficiency

2. High-speed steel drill bits (HSS)
High-speed steel drill bits (HSS) can also be used when drilling softer Incoloy 800 alloy, especially when a large amount of material removal is not required. High-speed steel has good heat resistance, can maintain high hardness at higher temperatures, and is suitable for working at low to medium cutting speeds.
Advantages: Relatively low cost, suitable for general cutting applications.
Disadvantages: For alloys with higher hardness, the durability is poor and may wear faster.

3. Coated drill bits
Coated drill bits (such as TiN coating, TiAlN coating, etc.) are also commonly used for drilling Incoloy 800 alloy. These coatings can improve the hardness, wear resistance and heat resistance of the drill bit, extend the service life of the drill bit, and help reduce the cutting temperature. Coated drill bits can generally improve processing efficiency and precision, reduce friction and heat accumulation during processing.

4. Diamond drill bits
For extremely hard Incoloy 800 alloy parts, diamond drill bits may be another choice. Diamond drill bits have extremely high hardness and wear resistance, and can cope with extremely difficult cutting tasks, but their cost is relatively high, and they are usually suitable for high-precision and special processing.

5. Summary of tool material selection
Carbide drill bits: suitable for most drilling tasks, especially under high temperature and high pressure.
High-speed steel drill bits (HSS): suitable for less hard workpieces, with certain cost advantages, but not suitable for large-scale processing.
Coated drill bits: suitable for improving drilling efficiency and extending tool life.
Diamond drill bit: suitable for high-precision processing of superhard materials.
Choosing the right drill bit material can effectively improve processing efficiency, reduce costs and extend tool life. Therefore, it is very important to choose the appropriate drill bit material according to actual processing conditions and process requirements.
