Inconel 718 is a nickel-based alloy containing a large amount of nickel (about 50% or more), as well as chromium, iron, molybdenum, niobium, titanium, aluminum and other elements. This alloy obtains its high strength characteristics through precipitation hardening. It exhibits excellent mechanical properties in the temperature range from cryogenics to about 700°C (1292°F), while having good corrosion resistance. Inconel 718 has a wide range of applications in aerospace, energy, chemical and nuclear industries due to its excellent comprehensive performance.
Hardness Range
The hardness range of Inconel 718 depends on its heat treatment state. In the solution treated state, its hardness is generally low, around HBS 346-450 (Brinell) or 30-35 HRC (Rockwell). After age hardening, the hardness can be significantly increased to HRC 40-45, or HV 380-450 (Vickers).
Density
The density of Inconel 718 is approximately 8.2 g/cm³ (0.297 lb/in³), which means it is slightly heavier than pure nickel but lighter than many steel alloys.
Forms and Specifications
