What is the difference between Inconel 600 and 718?
The main difference is that Inconel 600 is a nickel-chromium alloy known for its corrosion resistance and moderate high-temperature strength; while Inconel 718 is a precipitation-hardening alloy that has higher strength and toughness due to the presence of niobium and molybdenum. Inconel 600 is used in chemical and furnace components, while Inconel 718 is better suited for high-stress applications such as aerospace and jet engines.
Does Inconel 718 experience work hardening?
Inconel 718 is prone to work hardening, resulting in extremely high temperatures at the tool-workpiece contact surface, which accelerates tool wear. For decades, engineers have been seeking to address these challenges through advanced tooling, optimized cutting parameters, and new machining strategies.

Differences between Inconel 600 and 718
Inconel 600
Inconel 600, also known as Nicrofer 716, Pyromet Alloy 600, and Nicrimphy 600, is a nickel-chromium alloy with good oxidation resistance and high-temperature corrosion resistance. Due to its high nickel content, Inconel 600 has strong resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking. Inconel 600 does not require aging hardening treatment, as it is hardened and strengthened simply by cold working. Inconel 600 can operate in a temperature range from low temperatures to 700°F (370°C).

Inconel 718
Inconel 718 is a precipitation-hardening nickel-based alloy designed to exhibit extremely high yield strength, tensile strength, and creep rupture strength at temperatures up to 1300°F (700°C). Inconel 718 exhibits a slow age-hardening response, thus avoiding spontaneous hardening during heating and cooling, allowing for annealing and welding.
