Nickel Alloy 718, commonly referred to as Inconel 718, is a precipitation-hardening, corrosion-resistant, heat-resistant nickel alloy available in bars, forgings, sheets, and plates. AMS 5662 and AMS 5663 limit the dimension between parallel sides to 10 inches and less, and the maximum cross-sectional area of bars and finished forgings to 78 square inches. It is a multi-melt alloy, including VIM and/or VAR processes.

The alloy has high strength and creep-rupture properties from cryogenic to 1300° F, as well as corrosion resistance and weldability and cracking resistance. Nickel Alloy 718 has good resistance to oxidation and corrosion in the temperatures and atmospheres in which jet engines and gas turbines operate. It also resists corrosion from acids, seawater, and sour oils and/or gases.

Nickel Alloy 718 aerospace applications include jet engines, rocket engines, spacecraft, and fasteners. It is also used in oil and gas applications such as logging tools, pump shafts, fishing tools, and wellhead components.
