What are the differences between 600 nickel and S32003 stainless steel?
Nickel 600 (Alloy 600) is a high-nickel alloy highly regarded for its exceptional heat resistance and corrosion resistance (aerospace, chemical industry); while S32003 is a duplex stainless steel (iron-based) with good corrosion resistance and strength, suitable for common industrial applications. The main difference between Nickel 600 and S32003 lies in Nickel 600's superior high-temperature performance, strength, and corrosion resistance in harsh environments, while S32003 prioritizes cost-effectiveness and balance, making it suitable for less demanding applications. Furthermore, Nickel 600 has a significantly higher nickel content (>72%) than S32003.

What is 600 nickel alloy?
600 nickel alloy bars, wires, and ingots are a nickel-chromium alloy with excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance. Due to its resistance to various acid and alkali corrosion, it is also frequently used as a corrosion-resistant alloy.
S32003 stainless steel is a typical duplex stainless steel with excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. Its main components include chromium (Cr, 19.5%-22.5%), nickel (Ni, 3.0%-4.0%), molybdenum (Mo, 1.5%-2.0%), and nitrogen (N, 0.14%-0.20%). This material exhibits significant resistance to pitting corrosion in oxidizing acids and chloride-containing media, especially in moderate concentrations of sulfuric or hydrochloric acid. S32003 has a tensile strength ≥620 MPa, a yield strength ≥450 MPa, and an elongation after fracture ≥25%, and also possesses good toughness at low temperatures, making it suitable for harsh corrosive environments such as seawater desalination plants and chemical pipelines.
Nickel 600 (also known as Inconel 600) is a nickel-chromium based solid solution strengthened heat-resistant alloy with an austenitic structure, possessing excellent high-temperature strength, corrosion resistance, and oxidation resistance. Although often classified as "stainless steel", it is strictly speaking a nickel-based alloy (nickel content ≥72%), which is significantly different from traditional chromium-nickel stainless steel (such as 304). 2. Chemical composition (ASTM B168 standard) (1) Overall corrosion resistance Acid media: Resistant to dilute hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and phosphoric acid (non-oxidizing acids), but performance decreases in concentrated hydrochloric acid or high-temperature sulfuric acid. Alkali media: Excellent resistance to caustic alkali (such as NaOH) corrosion, especially in high-temperature molten alkali. Chloride environment: Better resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion than 304 stainless steel, but not as good as molybdenum-containing Inconel 625.
