Nickel 601 vs Monel 400

Nickel alloy 601 (Inconel 601) performs exceptionally well in high-temperature oxidation and carburizing environments (up to 2200°F/1200°C) and exhibits excellent thermal cycling resistance, making it commonly used in heat treatment and power generation applications. Monel 400, on the other hand, is a nickel-copper alloy best suited for marine environments and hydrofluoric/sulfuric acid environments. It offers good strength in a temperature range from sub-zero temperatures to approximately 1000°F (538°C) and is resistant to seawater corrosion. It is less expensive than alloy 601, but its heat resistance is not as good. The main difference between the two is that alloy 601 is rich in chromium, making it resistant to high temperatures, while Monel 400 is rich in copper, making it resistant to marine environments and acid corrosion.

Does Monel 400 alloy undergo work hardening?

MONEL nickel-copper alloy 400 (UNS N04400/W.Nr. 2.4360 and 2.4361) is a solid-solution alloy that can only be hardened through cold working. It exhibits high strength and toughness over a wide temperature range and possesses excellent corrosion resistance in a variety of corrosive environments.

Monel Alloy 400
MONEL nickel-copper alloy 400 (UNS N04400 / W.Nr. 2.4360 and 2.4361) is a solid-solution alloy that can only be strengthened by cold working. It exhibits high strength and toughness over a wide temperature range and offers excellent corrosion resistance in a variety of corrosive environments.

Inconel Alloy 600
INCONEL (nickel-chromium-iron) alloy 600 (UNS N06600 / W.Nr. 2.4816) is a standard engineering material suitable for applications requiring corrosion and high-temperature resistance. This alloy also possesses excellent mechanical properties, combining high strength with good workability.
