Incoloy refers to a family of high-temperature alloys currently produced by the Special Metals Corporation (SMC) group of companies and was created and trademarked by Inco in 1952. Initially, Inco protected these alloys through patents. In 2000, SMC published a 61-page document titled "High-Performance Alloys Resistant to Water Corrosion," which focused on Incoloy as well as Monel and Inconel products and their performance in fluid environments such as sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, and hydrofluoric acid. use, phosphoric acid, nitric acid, other acids and freshwater environments.

Incoloy products are primarily chromium- and nickel-based and are designed for corrosion resistance and high-temperature strength.

Incoloy alloy belongs to the super austenitic stainless steel category. One of the advantages of Incoloy alloys is that no heat treatment is required after welding to restore corrosion resistance

There are specific alloys that are resistant to specific chemical attacks. For example, Alloy 020 is designed to be resistant to sulfuric acid, while DS Incoloy is used in heat treatment furnaces with reactive atmospheres and multiple thermal cycles.

Incoloy 020 "Exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in chemical environments containing sulfuric acid, chloride, phosphoric acid and nitric acid."

Incoloy 028 "Resistant to acids and salts. The copper content makes it resistant to sulfuric acid."

Incoloy 330 "exhibits good strength at elevated temperatures and has good resistance to oxidizing and reducing environments."

Incoloy 800 "remains stable and maintains its austenitic structure even after prolonged exposure to high temperatures."

Incoloy 803 is designed for use in sulfur-rich environments.

Incoloy 825 is approved by ASTM B163 for use in heat exchanger tubes and is approved for use in pressure vessel operating temperatures up to 525°C or up to 538°C. It "has excellent resistance to sulfuric and phosphoric acid corrosion".

Incoloy 908 "has high tensile strength, resistance to fatigue crack growth, good weldability, metallurgical stability and ductility, high fracture toughness and impact toughness, [and] low coefficient of thermal expansion… [It] resists oxidative embrittlement… …Allows thermal fabrication without cracks."

Incoloy 907 "provides high strength and low coefficient of thermal expansion at temperatures up to 800°F."

Incoloy 945X is designed for use in chlorine-rich environments. Molybdenum enhances the crevice corrosion and pitting resistance of Incoloy 945.

Incoloy MA956 is made through mechanical alloying rather than an integral melting process; it was studied as a space reactor component in the Jimo project. Welding is difficult and requires heating to 200°C during the forming process. A special friction welding process was developed for this purpose.
